This is the largest temporary palace used by kings during the Joseon Dynasty. Unlike other palaces, it was actively used for defensive purposes and royal accommodation. It's famous for being a filming location for 'Jewel in the Palace' and offers a deep dive into royal life.

Tip: Try to arrive by 11:00 AM to catch the spectacular martial arts performance (Muye 24-gi) at the main gate.

Yeonpo Galbi

Suwon is famous for its 'Wang Galbi' (King Ribs), and Yeonpo Galbi is a staple restaurant located right near the Hwahongmun Gate. The ribs here are marinated to perfection and grilled over charcoal, offering a savory, tender taste that defines the region's cuisine.

Tip: Order the Galbi-tang (Short Rib Soup) if you want a lighter, cheaper lunch, but the charcoal grilled ribs are the main event.

Hwahongmun Gate

Also known as the North Watergate, this is one of the most picturesque spots in Suwon. The gate sits atop seven stone arches over the Suwoncheon Stream. The sound of water flowing through the arches creates a serene atmosphere amidst the fortress exploration.

Tip: Walk down to the stepping stones in the stream for the best angle to photograph the gate and the pavilion above it.

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Stretching nearly 6 kilometers, these walls surround the center of Suwon. You don't have to walk the whole length, but the section from Hwahongmun to Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion offers the most scenic views of the pond and the city below.

Tip: If you get tired, look for the 'Hwaseong Fortress Tourist Trolley' (Hwaseong Eocha) which drives visitors around the main points of interest.

Flying Suwon

Jinmi Tongdak

Located in the famous Suwon Chicken Street, Jinmi Tongdak is legendary for its traditional cauldron-fried chicken. The atmosphere is loud and bustling, and the chicken is incredibly crispy, served with dipping sauces and unlimited pickled radishes.

Tip: Expect a queue during peak hours. Order the 'Ban-Ban' (Half-Half) to try both the original fried and the sweet-spicy seasoned chicken.
